Autumn's Adventures in the Kitchen: Banana Bread

Though I've never shared this on my blog, I found a deep love for cooking and baking. This year I've learned all sorts of recipes and even made cupcakes from scratch. I grew up watching the women in my family create pure magic in the kitchen, and was always in awe of how they used food to bring people together. After a year of living alone, I feel like the cooking bug has finally bit me. So today, I thought I'd share this super easy banana bread recipe with y'all. Not only is it absolutely delicious but it takes less than 30 minutes to prep. The hardest part is truly waiting for it to be done baking, and ready to eat.

Ingredients

First things, first what will you need for this recipe?

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2  teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (2-3 medium bananas)
1/3 cup butter
2 eggs
1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps to bake

Step One: In a large bowl combine 1 cup of the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Step Two: Add mashed bananas, butter, and milk. Beat until blended.
Step Three: Add remaining flour, eggs, and chocolate chips.
Step Four: Pour batter into an 8x4x2 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees until you can stick a toothpick in it and it comes out clean.

I hope y'all enjoyed this super easy banana bread recipe. If you make it yourself, tag me & I'd love to see your creations!

Until next time,
Autumn

P.S- I had a little help from my boyfriend in the kitchen, hence the hands that obviously aren't mine. But baking is always a bit more fun with a buddy.

How to Shop the NSale as a Broke Girl

If you follow any bloggers at all, then I know your timeline is inundated in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale posts. But here's the thing, even though this is their biggest sale of the year most things still aren't that affordable.

So if you're like me and are consistently balling on a budget here are some fun under 55 dollars picks you might be interested in. It was 50 dollars, but one's 52 dollars. Sorry about that. But I tried to keep it in that range because as someone who lives in the middle of Texas where it's hot most of the year, I don't really see the point in buying fall/winter clothing in the middle of July. But if you live somewhere with actual seasons, here are my favorite affordable pieces that will be featured in the sale.

Hopefully, one or a couple of these picks caught your fancy, if you do decide to shop. I'll probably be picking up the earrings and the hat. Happy shopping y'all!

Until next time,

Style Her Style: Meghan Markle's Midi Dress

Hi friends!

I'm back with a long overdue Steal Her Style post. If you've been following the blog for a while, you'll know that I'm absolutely obsessed with Meghan Markle. She's got that impeccable model off duty style that I'm not sure I'll ever be able to master, but I'll always try.

Recently, Meghan stepped out in this olive green midi dress that I could absolutely see myself wearing all fall long. But of course when I looked up the dress she was wearing, it was a whopping $585. Yeah, that's not in the budget. So I rounded up a couple of affordable options to get the dutchess' look.

I've linked three separate options all under 100 dollars, including a more casual option.  I know some can be hesitant to opt for a midi dress, but the silhouette is super trendy right now and can be a great way to show off a cool pair of sneakers. And if you're looking for an alternative to her $300 Givenchy sunglasses, I've linked some more affordable dupes those as well.

Hopefully, this post helps you in your pursuit of royal style on a budget!

My Favorite Broke Girl Basics

If you follow me on Instagram, you know today or a few days ago depending on when you're reading this I posted about the struggle generate new content when my college girl budget doesn't quite allow me to shop all the time. So I thought I'd share some affordable staples in my closet.

1. Tee Shirt Dresses
In case you didn't know, it's H-O-T in Texas. So I live in t-shirt dresses for probably 80% of the year. Easy pieces that can be dressed up and worn season to season are my absolute favorite and tee-shirt dresses are the epitome of that. My favorite is this one from Everlane, that just got released in four new colors. It's under 40 dollars, and an absolute staple in my wardrobe as you can see from how often it appears on my Instagram. I'll absolutely be picking up the white and navy versions.

2. Denim

One of the biggest myths I've heard while blogging is that good denim has to cost a fortune. I've found that couldn't be further from the truth. My two favorite pairs of jeans are under $100 and have served me so well. First is the cheeky straight leg from Everlane, these retail for $78 but are worth every penny. I wear them at least once a week and they still look absolutely brand new.

The other pair is this pair of white skinny jeans from Gap. I'd be searching high and low for a new pair of white jeans for quite some time when I came across these. The Gap was having an amazing after Christmas sale, and I snagged these for only $12. I know what you're thinking, and I did buy two. They're currently marked down for $35, which is still an amazing price as well.

For things like denim skirts, I often turn to the Madewell sale section. They offer a student discount on top of their sale prices when you shop in-store, and it's been my saving grace when it comes to shopping from Madewell. They're currently running a sale on sale, and if I were you I'd check out this skirt, and this skirt.

3. Good Shoes

If there's one thing I spend way too much money on, it's shoes. But just because I like to buy shoes, doesn't mean I like to spend a fortune on them. When I'm looking for fun shoes, I usually turn to places like Nasty Gal and Target. Not only are they always having sales, but their shoes have always been great quality.

So here are my top three broke girl basics, and some pretty great places to shop them. If you're looking to shop anything I'm wearing on my Instagram, you can almost always find them on my Likeittoknowit page! You can either click this link or just search Almost It Girl on the app.

I'd love to see your broke girl basics, so feel free to comment them below!

Until Next Time,
